District Attorney Ricky Babin
Qualifying for the November 3 election came to a close a few moments ago. We are pleased to report that Ricky Babin has been elected to a fourth term as District Attorney for the 23rd Judicial District comprised of Ascension, Assumption and St. James parishes. It marks the third time that Babin has won the office without opposition, a testament to the efficiency, effectiveness and professionalism that Babin and his staff bring to the office every day.
In Babin’s own words:
“It has to be the growth of this area. When I took office in 2009, we were still a relatively small rural office but have since had to adapt to and transform to a high-volume urban-type office. Serving this community has been an unbelievable honor. I am blessed to work with an amazing group of people.
My family has always supported my decision to serve. This community has always supported our office and our mission. I have been fortunate to work with dedicated public officials like nowhere else.
Our relationship with law enforcement, parish and city governments, judges, clerks, legislators and elected officials has contributed to our success and created a level of cooperation unmatched anywhere else. Finally, the District Attorney’s Office has a group of attorneys, legal professionals, and investigators who are dedicated, hardworking, knowledgeable, and skilled far beyond expectations.
The future is bright for our area, and I commit to you to use every resource we can to keep our area safe for the families of this district.”
On October 4, 2008, Babin won a healthy plurality of votes among four Ascension Parish candidates for the office of District Attorney, leading the pack in all three parishes when the votes were counted. While he did not win a majority, a near impossibility when the votes are split four ways, it was fairly certain that Ricky Babin was going to prevail in the runoff scheduled a month later.
Louis Lambert, the second-place finisher, bowed out and Ricky Babin was elected.
