Judgeship, Justice of Peace positions on the ballot Tuesday

One District Court judgeship and four Justice Court positions are up for grabs on Election Day, November 3.

District Judge — 23rd Judicial District Court, ES 2, Div. A:

Jason Verdigets, seeking a third term on the Division A bench, is set to face Kim Landry.  The election is contested in Ascension, Assumption and St. James parishes.

  • Kim Landry (REP)
  • Jason Verdigets (REP)

Justice of the Peace — 2nd Justice Court:

  • James Landry (REP)
  • Christie Mayeux (REP)

Mayeux is the incumbent, having bested Landry in 2020 by 12 percentage points.

Constable — 2nd Justice Court:

This one is another rematch, with Thomas Mayeux winning over Danny Thibodeaux by two points in 2020.

  • Thomas Mayeux (REP)
  • Danny Thibodeaux (REP)

Justice of the Peace — 3rd Justice Court:

Speaking of rematches, these two candidates have already faced off twice.

  • John C. Hebert (REP)
  • Lynelle Johnson (REP)

John Hebert beat Lynelle Johnson by ten percentage points in 2014; he held her off by two points in 2020.  Even so, Johnson is the incumbent after winning a Special Election to fill the seat after Hebert resigned early in the term.

Constable — 3rd Justice Court:

  • “Clint” Boe (NOPTY)
  • James E. LeBlanc (REP)

James E. LeBlanc is seeking a fifth full term as Constable for the 3rd Justice Court.  He should win it…by a lot
