Bayou Manchac Flood Mitigation sees $30 million in state funding

A major milestone has unlocked $30 million in state funding for the regional Bayou Manchac flood mitigation project — a partnership between Ascension, Iberville, East Baton Rouge, and the City of St. George.

A new Hydrology & Hydraulics (H&H) study shows the project will lower flood levels by approximately 2.5 inches, helping move more water out of our region during heavy rain events.

For Ascension residents, this means:

  • Stronger drainage capacity along a critical regional waterway
  • Reduced flood risk for thousands of homes and businesses
  • Better protection during major storm events
  • A more resilient future for our growing parish
This $30 million investment allows the project to move into the construction phase, an important step toward long-term flood protection across multiple parishes.
