3-2 vote approves baseball agreement between Gonzales and Ascension Parish

Gonzales Elected Officials

In late 2024 Gonzales’ interim mayor, Ryland Percy, inked an agreement with Impact Sports (which operates AP Baseball), as did Ascension Parish President Clint Cointment in anticipation of the 2025 season.  Ascension’s Parish Council approved a new agreement with AP Baseball in October, commencing negotiations with the city in lieu of Gonzales doing another deal with the private league provider.  After twice rejecting the agreement, three City Council members voted to approve an Intergovernmental Agreement last night.

It was not the agreement presented for consideration (for a third time) by Mayor Tim Riley.  Councilman Tyler Turner offered an amendment to that one, deleting the city’s obligation to make four baseball fields (three at Municipal Park and the one at Civic Center) available for AP Baseball/Gonzales Diamond Youth league use.  His motion did reserve four fields at Tee Joe Park for exclusive use by the recreational leagues, his motion stating that the others would be devoted to travel ball team use.

AP Baseball’s Jason “Doc” Adams had provided Turner a schedule requesting use of the Municipal/Civic Center fields…

for a total of six weeks during the year.  Councilman Turner’s motion was not all that clear on whether or not the request could be accommodated.  Turner was joined in approving the amended agreement by Councilmen Eddie Williams and Kirk Boudreaux Councilwomen Cynthia James and Terri Lambert voted “NO.”
