That Corey Orgeron is the worst council member in Ascension’s history of Home Rule is not hyperbole. Nor is it overstatement to say that he disgraced himself, his colleagues and Ascension Parish, seemingly intentionally and at every opportunity. Every citizen of the parish is better off with his exit from public life.
None of which is news and we promised ourselves to ignore this embarrassment once he did not qualify for reelection in July. Reviewing events for an end-of-year wrap up altered the plan as one after another of Orgeron’s antics resulted in a spike to the blood pressure meriting a final purgative to rid the body politic of this cancer.
That he joined six others on the ash heap of local history is fitting since those former colleagues enabled Orgeron’s misdeeds (particularly that other bloviating lawyer somehow elected twice in District 7). The fact that Orgeron was only censured once by the Council is a discredit to them all. That October 21, 2021 censure…
“…for making malicious statements, intentionally inflicting emotional distress, verbal abuse and using profane or foul language to the public…
It is important that every council member treat the public with respect.
Whereas, Councilman Corey Orgeron has violated the Code of Conduct that Ascension Parish Council expects of its members,…the above actions and others have shown a pattern of disrespectful behavior by Councilman Corey Orgeron.
Therefore, be it resolved that Ascension Parish Council publicly censures Corey Orgeron for said actions in treating members of the public in an unprofessional and discourteous manner.”
was a long time in coming.
The instigating incident occurred during an October 18, 2021 meeting of East Ascension Drainage Commission…
EA Drainage approves deal with Cointment in raucous meeting (another Orgeron meltdown)
when Orgeron targeted a member of the audience (not for the first time as it happened).
On the upside, 15 months would elapse before Corey Orgeron showed up at another EA Drainage meeting. He only made two more for the remainder of his term in office which is set to expire in three days.
His council meeting attendance is not all that impressive either. According to the official Parish Council meeting minutes, Orgeron was absent for 27 of the 46 post-censure meetings (thanks, Long COVID). He skipped the October 21, 2021 meeting when his colleagues unanimously voted to censure, absenting himself thereafter except on those occasions when he could take shots at Parish President Clint Cointment or the administration.
All in all, he had become a liability to those colleagues who relished the unfounded attacks, and the shameless buffoonery that was Councilman Corey Orgeron. They had all had their comeuppance after…
EA Drainage’s 2021 coup attempt is over (Cointment wins big)
a failed plot to divest President Cointment of his authority over East Ascension Drainage. It was the beginning of the end for six council careers (a seventh if you lump in Alvin “Coach” Thomas who, while supportive of the effort, was not a member of the EA Drainage Commission). Orgeron and four others would not seek reelection, Dempsey Lambert and Thomas got embarrassed at the polls on October 14.
Orgeron’s schtick had worn translucently thin even before the failed coup.

Prairieville Councilman Corey Orgeron getting cozy with the developers during a recess from discussion of the moratorium on subdivision development (June 18, 2021). Orgeron would urge that Baton Rouge Homebuilders Association have a seat at the table when Development Code amendments were considered.
A shill for the homebuilding/development community that funded his campaign, Orgeron led the council’s approval of Antebellum Pointe after the Planning Commission rejected the preliminary plat. His vote ignored the clearly expressed will of his District 4 constituents. Orgeron could not have cared less what those constituents wanted.
Cointment would veto the council vote only to see a rebranded Delaune Estates obtain approval of its refiled plat.
Commissioner Ken Firmin changes vote to approve (once denied) Delaune Estates
A meritless lawsuit against Cointment was summarily dismissed with Orgeron having to pay the Parish President’s attorney fees in August of 2021. Before Orgeron could satisfy the debt he would be convicted of Simple Battery against one of his clients.

Turns out, if his multiple courtroom performances are any indicator, Orgeron is also an incompetent lawyer and an inveterate liar.
NOTE: At present there is a pending lawsuit against Orgeron, filed by Ascension Parish Government, alleging he violated the development code undertaking changes at his personal residence.
Entirely oblivious to decorum and civility, Orgeron’s scurrilous attacks were not reserved for President Cointment.
Corey Orgeron’s social media meltdown aims accusations at Cointment, denigrates Compton
For some reason, Ricky Compton was regularly targeted.
Corey Orgeron brought dishonor to himself and the Council, and embarrassment to Ascension Parish. He will not be missed when the clock strikes noon on Monday (the beginning of Brett Arceneaux’s term as the District 4 representative in accordance with Home Rule Charter (Section 4-23) with inauguration scheduled the next day.
