Tuesday’s Congressional election results in Ascension

Three Congressional races were contested in Ascension yesterday, including the election to succeed the incumbent Senator who failed to make a primary runoff.  Bill Cassidy, having angered President Donald Trump, finished out of the primary runoff won by Republican candidate, Julie Letlow.  Currently occupying the 5th District seat in the House of Representatives, Letlow faced Jamie Harris for the Senate seat on Tuesday.

On the worst electoral night Republican Senate candidates have had in a generation, Letlow squeaked out a win with 51% of the statewide vote (she received 54% of the vote in Ascension Parish).

US Senate:

  • Jamie Harris-D,
  • Julia Letlow-R

U. S. Representative — 2nd Congressional District:

Incumbent, and prohibitive favorite Troy Carter is set to face four opponents, none of whom is a Republican.  The incumbent, Troy Carter, won reelection with 80% of the vote (71% in Ascension).

  • Lisa Ballay (LBT)
  • Walter “Rocky” Beach (NOPTY)
  • Troy A. Carter, Sr. (DEM), Incumbent
  • Renada “Honey” Collins (NOPTY)
  • Peter Williams (REP)

U. S. Representative — 6th Congressional District:

This one seems wide open and likely to be settled in a December runoff.  Back and forth went the district’s configuration, gerrymandered to eliminate Cleo Fields’ seat which had been conferred upon him by redrawing a majority minority seat for the 2022 vote.  Ten names on the ballot (six Republicans, three Democrats and a Libertarian), this one will be settled on December 12.

  • Monique Appeaning (REP)
  • Chauna Banks (DEM)
  • Rufus Craig (LBT)
  • Larry Davis III (REP)
  • “Rick” Edmonds (REP)
  • Patrick “Pat” Forbes (DEM)
  • Lindsay “Rubia” Garcia (DEM)
  • Michael Mebruer (REP)
  • Blake Miguez (REP)
  • Stephen Wagley (REP)T

In a nailbiter, it appears that Chauna Banks (50,878 votes) will proceed to the runoff against Blake Miguez (50,213 votes).  Rick Edmonds showed with a 49,241-vote total, just out of the money (and the December 12 runoff election.

In Ascension, Miguez garnered 21% with Edmonds in second with 19%.  Banks ran a close third with 18%.
