Guilty Pleas for the Week of August 10-14

During the week of August 10 – August 14, 2026, the following defendants pled guilty to various charges and were sentenced in the 23rd Judicial District Court – Ascension Parish:

  • James Major, 14196 Garcon Rd. Gonzales, LA, age 37, pled guilty to Identity Theft and Bank Fraud. The defendant was sentenced to 2 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 2 years supervised probation.
  • Kyngston Alvarez, 2824 S Burnside Ave Gonzales, LA, age 19, pled guilty to Illegal Possession of a Stolen Firearm and was sentenced to 2 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 2 years supervised probation.

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Christoher Carter and Blake Sheets. Presiding over these matters was the Honorable Judge Cody Martin.

  • Kasey Carter, 139 Virginia St. Belle Rose, LA, age 37, pled guilty to Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
  • Thomas Cousin, 4216 Haydel Rd. Gonzales, LA, age 46, pled guilty to Theft Valued Less than $1,000, 2 or More Convictions, Illegal Possession of Stolen Things Valued Over $25,000, and Theft Valued at $1,000 or More, but Less than $5,000. The defendant was sentenced to 8 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. It was ordered that 4 years of the said sentence are to be served, and the remaining 4 years are to be suspended. Upon release from incarceration, the defendant is to be placed on 3 years supervised probation.
  • Keelan Jackson, 2513 S Penn Ave. Gonzales, LA, age 24, pled guilty to 1st Degree Robbery (2 counts) and was sentenced to 10 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served on each count. The said sentences are to run concurrent with one another.
  • Taj Levy, 11232 Roddy Rd. Gonzales, LA, age 29, pled guilty to Conspiracy to Commit 2nd Degree Murder and was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
  • Donovan Starks, 2103 S Allen Ave. Gonzales, LA, age 25, pled guilty to Aggravated Battery and was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
  • Charles Thomas, 3439 Sandy Dr. Baker, LA, age 45, pled guilty to Aggravated Battery. Sentencing was deferred to a later date pending a Pre-Sentence Investigation.
  • Jamal Vaughn, 301 Claiborne St. Donaldsonville, LA, age 26, pled guilty to Conspiracy to Commit 2nd Degree Murder and was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Philip Prescott, and presiding over these matters was the Honorable Judge Jason Verdigets
