Incumbent Cassidy loses reelection bid for US Senate

Senator Bill Cassidy’s tenure is coming to an end.  Cassidy finished a distant third in Saturday’s closed primary to select the Republican candidate for the November 3 election.  Currently a member of the House of Representatives, Juilia Letlow led the four-candidate field with 45% of the vote.

Louisiana’s Treasurer, John Fleming received 28%, besting Cassidy (25%) and Mark Spencer (2%).

Letlow performed even better in Ascension Parish where 48% of the electorate cast their ballots for the President Donald Trump-endorsed candidate.  Letlow would have to be considered the odds-on favorite over Treasurer Fleming, assuming he sticks it out.

Whoever progresses to the November 3 election is a shoo-in against the Democrat according to the smart money.
