The Gonzales Police Department is proud to recognize Officer Darcy Taylor, who was honored as the 2026 VFW Officer of the Year.
Officer Taylor has served GPD with dedication since 2018, first in patrol, where she quickly became a field training officer, helped guide newly hired officers, gained certifications in Crisis Negotiations and criminal investigations, became a POST-certified homicide investigator, and was awarded a lifesaving commendation.
In 2023, Officer Taylor stepped into a full-time evidence technician role and took on a major challenge: bringing our evidence management process further into the 21st century.
What was once heavily dependent on aging paper logs and legacy processes is now moving into a stronger, more efficient evidence tracking system, one built not just for today, but to better support the future of investigations in Gonzales.
Her work included converting and organizing critical evidence records, completing approximately eight large-scale court-approved evidence disposals, creating additional evidence storage capacity, and completing an internal audit of more than 44,000 evidence items.
That work matters. Evidence handling is not just storage, it protects case integrity, supports officers, strengthens investigations, and helps ensure matters can move forward the right way.
Officer Taylor continues to assist officers with proper evidence submission, forensic testing guidance, crime scene procedures, and field training for new officers.
Please join us in congratulating Officer Darcy Taylor on this well-deserved honor. We are proud to have her serving Gonzales
