Baton Rouge man arrested for Attempted Second Degree Murder

Detectives with the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office Violent Crimes Unit have charged Kayla Lucas, 22, of Baton Rouge, with attempted second-degree murder, illegal use of weapons, and aggravated criminal damage to property.

On Wednesday, May 6, at approximately 10:00 p.m., deputies responded to a shooting in a restaurant parking lot on Perkins Road in Prairieville. Upon arrival, deputies located a male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his arm.

During the investigation, detectives learned Lucas fired multiple shots at the victim’s vehicle as he was leaving the property following an altercation.

VCU detectives, with assistance from the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office, executed a search warrant at Lucas’ residence. Lucas was arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Jail.

He was transferred to the Ascension Parish Jail last week.

This remains an ongoing investigation.
