Freedom Caucus on Louisiana v. Callais decision

Yesterday, the Supreme Court of the United States issued a decisive ruling in Louisiana v. Callais, affirming a that our congressional maps must not be drawn based on race.

Louisiana Freedom Caucus Chairwoman Beryl Amedée issued the following statement:

“By finding Louisiana’s congressional map unconstitutional on the grounds of racial gerrymandering, the U.S. Supreme Court has restored moral clarity to the electoral process. This decision affirmed that Section 2 of the VRA remains a tool against vote dilution from intentional racial discrimination. It is not a mechanism to force proportional racial outcomes in elected office. Today’s ruling is a victory not for one party or one group, but for the principle that every citizen stands equal before the law.”
