Editor, Pelican Post Online;

Your website has chosen to repeatedly reprint a Facebook post written by the former City of Gonzales Chief Administrative Officer, Scott Byrd, which clearly implies illegality regarding checks written to Liberty Fence during the short term that I was interim Mayor of the City of Gonzales.

Both the Pelican Post and Mr. Byrd should be aware that, under the duly adopted procedures and ordinances of the City of Gonzales, any checks signed by the Mayor and/or the Mayor Pro Tem/Council Finance Chairman during my short time in office would have been presented for signature on a weekly basis only after proceeding through the adopted process of the City.  That process included presentation of checks for signature only after being previously approved by the applicable department heads. Approval of any expenditure during that time required the signature of the respective department head on each invoice, affirming that the amount was appropriate and within the budget approved by the City Council.

Ryland Percy
