Season 10 of LPB’s Art Rocks premieres on Friday

Louisiana Public Broadcasting will raise the curtain on the tenth season of Art Rocks! The Series on Friday, September 23 at 8:30PM. Art Rocks! is LPB’s weekly half-hour series that spotlights artists, performance, culture, literature, history and the impact of art in our world. Each episode includes a feature story about a Louisiana artist or arts organization, highlights current exhibitions around the state, and includes segments on the arts from across the country from PBS affiliates.

For the Season 10 opener of Art Rocks!, the Baton Rouge-based choral ensemble, Heritage, is featured for the full half-hour. These talented vocalists are soon headed to legendary Carnegie Hall, and viewers will understand why when learning about their story and listening to their songs. Heritage Choir Director, Clarence Jones, will share insights on why spirituals have long been a source of solace and inspiration within the Black church and how Heritage Choir came to be almost five decades ago.

Long-time Art Rocks! producer Dorothy Kendrick says, “It is such a joy to travel the entire state and speak with some of the most creative minds we have here. What makes public television the perfect place for discovery is that we have the time to really tell their stories.”

LPB Director of Programming, Jason Viso adds, “Being able to feature Louisiana’s talented artists on LPB and share these stories with other PBS stations means Louisiana artists not only have their stories told statewide on Art Rocks!but in other states across the country, leading to nationwide exposure.”

For a decade, Art Rocks! has celebrated art in all of its forms. From painters and sculptors to authors and performers, the series celebrates the many ways Louisianans share their creativity. Mediums range from watercolors to wood; from clay to collage; from photography to printmaking, and more.

Hosted by James Fox-Smith, Publisher of Country Roads Magazine, a new episode of Art Rocks! premieres each Friday at 8:30PM and encores Saturday at 5:30PM on the six-station LPB network that includes stations in Alexandria, Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Lake Charles, Monroe and Shreveport.
