Gonzales man who shot father, struck family dog, arrested by APSO

On Wednesday, January 7, shortly after 5 p.m., deputies responded to a residence on Thurston McCrory Road in Gonzales about a person who had been shot.

When deputies arrived on scene, they located a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a nearby hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Violent Crime Unit arrived on scene and learned that 22-year-old Jonathan Landry was involved in an altercation with his father, also named Jonathan Landry, regarding the son stealing guns from a locked compartment in the residence. When the father attempted to confront the son, he shot him and struck the family dog in the process.

Landry was arrested and charged with attempted second-degree murder and cruelty to animals and booked into the Ascension Parish Jail.
