BASF is supporting St. Amant High School’s Navy Junior ROTC program with a $5,500 donation toward its Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Program. The donation funds JROTC’s new underwater robotics program called Sea Perch.
Sea Perch offers cadets in the program an opportunity to gain hands-on experience building and operating a remotely operated vehicle (ROV). The unit is led by Certified Senior Naval Science Instructor Larry Ungar.
“Without the funding from BASF, this course would have been purely academic, and we would have had only half the number of students,” said Ungar. “There isn’t a day that goes by that my students aren’t anxious to learn what they will be doing next. We can’t thank BASF enough.”
BASF’s sponsorship ensures students and educators are equipped with resources to learn about basic science and engineering concepts, tool safety, technical applications, problem solving and teamwork skills in an exciting, hands-on environment.
