Early voting for the August 15 election date has been extended by a week (to end on August 8)  What’s on the ballot in Ascension?

PARISH-WIDE (3)

Ascension Parish Library-Property tax of 5.6 mills: 

Shall the Parish of Ascension, State of Louisiana (the “Parish”), be authorized to levy and collect a 5.6 mills tax on all the property subject to taxation in the Parish (an estimated $9,535,200.00 is reasonably expected at this time to be collected from the levy of the tax for an entire year), for a period of ten (10) years, beginning with the year 2021 and ending with the year 2030, for the purpose of maintaining and supporting the Ascension Parish Library and its branches, such tax to be in lieu of the 2.6 mills and 4.2 mills taxes currently being levied for the same purpose?

NOTE: This is a renewal of two existing ad valorem assessments totaling 6.8 mills.  If passed it would combine them into a single 5.6 mills assessment.

Mental Health renewal of 2 mills:

Shall the Parish of Ascension, State of Louisiana (the “Parish”) renew the levy and collection of a two (2) mill tax on all property subject to taxation in the Parish (an estimated $2,893,844.00 reasonably expected at this time to be collected from the levy of the tax for an entire year) (the “Tax”), for a period of ten (10) years, beginning with the year 2021 and ending with the year 2030, for the purpose of maintaining and supporting a mental health program in the Parish?

Approval of $140,000,000 in bonds to fund school construction:

Shall the Parish-Wide School District of Ascension Parish, Louisiana (the “District”), incur debt and issue bonds to the amount of not exceeding One Hundred Forty Million Dollars ($140,000,000), in one or more series, to run not exceeding twenty (20) years from date thereof, with interest at a rate or rates not exceeding seven per centum (7%) per annum, for the purpose of acquiring and/or improving lands for building sites and playgrounds, including construction of necessary sidewalks and streets adjacent thereto; purchasing, erecting and/or improving school buildings and other school related facilities within and for the District and acquiring the necessary equipment and furnishings therefor, title to which shall be in the public; which bonds will be general obligations of the District and will be payable from ad valorem taxes to be levied and collected in the manner provided by Article VI, Section 33 of the Constitution of the State of Louisiana of 1974 and statutory authority supplemental thereto, with no estimated increase in the millage rate to be levied in the first year of issue above the 15.08 mills currently being levied to pay General Obligation Bonds of the District?

Fire District No. 3 (Prairieville) renewal of 10 mills:

Shall Fire Protection District No. 3, Parish of Ascension, State of Louisiana (the “District”), renew the levy and collection of a ten (10) mill tax on all the property subject to taxation in the District (an estimated $2,602,302.00 reasonably expected at this time to be collected from the levy of the Tax for an entire year), for a period of ten (10) years, beginning with the year 2021 and ending with the year 2030, for the purpose of development, acquisition, construction, operation and maintenance of facilities and equipment of the District and paying the cost of providing fire protection services, including salaries and all purposes incidental thereto, with the proceeds thereof subject to being funded into bonds?

West Ascension Drainage District renewal of 5.33 mills

Shall the West Ascension Consolidated Gravity Drainage District No. 1 of the Parish of Ascension, Louisiana (the “District”) be authorized to renew the levy and collection of a 5.33 mills tax on all property subject to taxation within the boundaries of the District (the “Tax”) (an estimated $648,417.00 reasonably expected at this time to be collected from the levy of the Tax for an entire year), for a period of ten (10) years, beginning with the year 2021 and ending with the year 2030, and shall the proceeds of said Tax (after paying the reasonable and necessary expenses of collecting and administering the Tax) be used to provide funds to maintain, construct and improve drainage works within the territorial limits of the District?
