Ascension student wins coveted award at Advanced Space Camp

Brennan Begley, an Ascension Parish Early College Option student who attended Advanced Space Camp at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, AL, has received the camp’s highest and most coveted award.

He was honored with “The Right Stuff Award,” which is named for Tom Wolfe’s 1979 book The Right Stuff. It is given to an outstanding trainee who goes above and beyond in leadership, teamwork, and technology throughout the time at camp.

Known as one of the premier math/science/technology educational programs in the United States, Advanced Space Camp is an educational program that couples classroom instruction with hands-on activities and teaches teamwork, decision-making, and leadership.

Begley attended Advanced Space Camp with 48 students from around the United States. The week long experience included lessons in rocketry, discussions with an astronaut, and opportunities to train in astronaut simulators.
