Ascension Public Schools announces the appointment of leaders for two new schools. Rhonda Gillard will be Principal of Bluff Ridge Primary School, and Matthew Monceaux will be Principal of Bluff Middle School.
“We have two outstanding Ascension Parish educators that will be taking on new leadership roles in January and helping us open new schools in the Fall of 2020. We are so proud of Rhonda Gillard and Matt Monceaux and look forward to the great things they will do at Bluff Ridge Primary and Bluff Middle schools,” said Ascension Public Schools Superintendent David Alexander.
BLUFF RIDGE PRIMARY SCHOOL
Rhonda Gillard will be Principal of the new Bluff Ridge Primary School in January 2020.
Gillard has been in education for over 19 years. After teaching for six years in New Orleans and one year in Georgia, Gillard and her family relocated to Ascension Parish in 2006. In 2007, she joined the Ascension Parish school system as a teacher at Dutchtown Primary School. She later became an Instructional Coach at Prairieville Primary and took part in the opening of Sorrento Primary School as an Assistant Principal in 2011. In 2017 she was appointed to her current position of Principal of G.W. Carver Primary School.
“I am honored to have this opportunity to lead and open up Bluff Ridge Primary School,” said Gillard. “My career started at Dutchtown Primary School so I feel like I have come full circle as I am heading back to serve the community in which I live, and that is truly an honor and a joy. I am excited and overjoyed to be able to embark on this new adventure!”
Gillard earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in social work from Southern University at New Orleans. However, she found her passion for education after completing a teaching certification program at Xavier University of New Orleans. After eight years of teaching, Gillard returned to school to earn a master’s degree in educational leadership from Southeastern Louisiana University.
She is married to Eric Gillard and is the proud mother of her 23-year-old son, EJ, and 17-year-old daughter, Endya.
BLUFF MIDDLE SCHOOL
Matthew Monceaux will be Principal of the new Bluff Middle School in January 2020.
Monceaux began his education career in Ascension Parish in 2007. He worked as a teacher at Dutchtown High School before serving as Assistant Principal of Lowery Middle School for two years. In 2015, he moved to East Ascension High School to serve as an Assistant Principal. Then, he was appointed to serve as St. Amant High School’s Associate Principal in 2017, a position he currently holds.
“I want to say thank you…for giving me this opportunity. This is a tremendous task, opening a new school, but I am very excited about it and eager to start,” said Monceaux. “The whole community and culture at St. Amant High School really is something very special that I feel thankful to have been a part of. That is something that I hope to take to this new school — to have a culture and a community that really supports the school — where everybody supports each other.”
Monceaux earned a bachelor’s degree in history and a master’s degree in education from Louisiana State University. He also earned a master’s degree in educational leadership and a doctorate in educational leadership from Southeastern Louisiana University.
He and his wife, Heidi, have four children: Hayden, Jeremy, Ella, and Avery.
