Prairieville leads the way to record Early Voting day

According to Ascension Clerk of Court Bridget Hanna:

A record first day of Early Voting in Ascension Parish: Oak Grove Community Center – 1837 voters; Gonzales – 1312 voters; and Donaldsonville 319 voters for a total of 3468 voters.
Early Voting continues Monday, Nov. 4th through Saturday, Nov. 9th from 8:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. daily at Oak Grove Community Center in Prairieville, Courthouse in Gonzales and Courthouse in Donaldsonville.

Over seven days (September 28-October 4) 13,373 voters cast the franchise early for the October 12 Primary Election when all contested Ascension Parish and legislative seats appeared on the ballot. Yesterday was the first day to early vote for the November 16 General Election, again led by those Prairieville voters who now have Oak Grove Community Center as an option.  Prairieville precincts, corresponding to Parish Council District 7 (596 votes), District 4 (503 votes), District 11 (326 votes), and District 5 (309 votes).

Only District 7’s council seat is up for grabs on November 16.

In November 2018 (Oak Grove Community Center’s first year as early polling station) saw 9,700 votes cast early and an eventual 54% turnout.  Low Election Day turnout last month resulted in 48% overall turnout even with all those parish/legislative races on the ballot.

Registered Republicans (1532) outpaced Democrat (1360) voters yesterday; in keeping with last month’s totals when Republicans (4374) voted early compared to Democrats (3849).
