Bluff Ridge Primary and Bluff Middle Attendance Zones meeting today at Dutchtown Middle

Donaldsonville, La. — The Ascension Parish School Board is asking for public input before deciding the attendance zone for the new Bluff Ridge Primary and Bluff Middle schools scheduled to open in Fall 2020. Parents are encouraged to complete an online survey or attend the public meeting Oct. 30 at Dutchtown Middle.

Designed to relieve growing student enrollment at Dutchtown Primary and Spanish Lake Primary and Dutchtown Middle and Prairieville Middle, the Ascension Parish School Board will determine new school attendance zones for the existing four attendance boundaries (two primary and two middle). The intent is that no other schools or feeder systems will be impacted.

“There is a tremendous amount of research and data review that goes into this process,” said Superintendent David Alexander. “We engaged the services of independent consultant Mike Hefner to assist with boundary planning. Hefner is one of the most experienced demographers in Louisiana, and he has been recognized as an expert witness in State and Federal courts on matters involving demographics and boundary planning.”

This week, the School Board’s Strategic Planning Committee selected three draft attendance zone options and would like to gather input from the public before making a final decision. The three plans can be viewed below or detailed .pdf versions downloaded at

Please note, as Bluff Ridge Primary and Bullion Primary will feed into the new Bluff Middle School scheduled to open Fall 2020, the Ascension Parish School Board will determine the two new school attendance boundaries together — this means the boundary option ultimately selected for Bluff Ridge Primary must match the boundary option selected for Bluff Middle School.
