Gonzales man arrested after pointing rifle at deputy

Sheriff Bobby Webre reports the arrest of 22-year-old Guthrie Ebey on multiple charges on Sunday, September 29.

Deputies responded to the area of Highway 22 after receiving a complaint of a vehicle driving erratically down Highway 22. Deputies arrived in the area and approached the vehicle at which time Ebey exposed a rifle out of the driver side window and pointed it at the deputy.

Ebey then fled the area and deputies followed him until he stopped on a bridge on Highway 22 in Livingston Parish where he exited the vehicle, pointed the rifle at the deputy again and then jumped over the bridge railing into the river.

APSO deputies, along with the assistance of the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office apprehended Ebey where he was taken into custody.

Ebey, of Gonzales, was arrested and charged with reckless operation, aggravated flight from an officer, aggravated assault with a motor vehicle upon a peace officer, aggravated assault with a firearm, expired motor vehicle inspection sticker, no registration on vehicle, no liability insurance, obstruction of justice/aggravated assault, no driver’s license, two counts running stop signs, general speed law, aggravated assault on a peace officer, resisting an officer, theft, and trespassing.

More charges may be pending.

He was booked into the Ascension Parish Jail where no bond has been set yet.
