ARPEC refutes Corey Orgeron’s claim that he was snubbed at candidate forum

I would like to make perfectly clear a few points regarding Mr. Corey Orgeron’s comments regarding last nights Forum hosted by the Ascension Republican Parish Executive Committee.

As the coordinator of the event, I sent ALL Ascension Parish President and Ascension Parish Council Candidates, regardless of party affiliation, an open invitation to attend the forum; completely nonpartisan and nonbiased. That letter was mailed on August 12, 2019 with a required RSVP date of August 26, 2019. As a courtesy to those I had not yet heard from, on August 27, 2019 I personally called those that had yet to respond to ensure they knew of the forum and were again offered the opportunity to attend if they so desired.

I personally called Mr. Orgeron at the telephone number provided to the Secretary of State when he qualified to run in the District 4 council race; 225.402.4441. According to my cell phone records, I called that number on August 27, 2019 at 12:47 p.m.

I identified myself to Mr. Orgeron, inquired if he had received the invitation (he had) and asked whether he would be attending the forum on September 12, 2019. He stated he was not certain he would be able to attend the forum as he had a large legal case that was scheduled to be in court the next day, September 13, 2019.  He stated that, in light of him having to prepare to go to court, it was doubtful he would be attending the forum.  I expressed regret that he may not attend and stated I hoped it would turn out that he could.

ARPEC event coordinator’s phone record

The call lasted a total of 4 minutes, 57 seconds.  I had no further contact with Mr. Orgeron. I printed him a name badge, as for all other attendees, for the forum in the event he was able to attend.

Two councilmen were not present at the start of the forum as they were attending Parish Council committee meetings, came in after their meetings and made a presentation at the end of the program to the attendees present. Those that wanted the opportunity to speak were heard.
