Chris Guidry announces for Sorrento Council seat

After thinking about this long and hard, praying about it regularly,  and being involved in the town of Sorrento regularly for the last few years,  I have decided to run for Councilman for the town of Sorrento.  I have lived in Ascension Parish for 11 years, in Sorrento for about 6 years now, and for the past year I have served on the Planning and Zoning Committee.  I am married to Shae Guidry, and we have 4 beautiful Children, Jaxton, Lyla, Allie, and Lexa.  I am a Mechanical Specialist for Shell Oil Refinery in Convent, I run a successful real estate business, and I enjoy hunting, fishing, and the outdoors with my children.

I see a lot of potential for the future of Sorrento.  Large manufacturing and refineries are starting to expand and grow around the River Parishes.  We have a hidden gem that I believe can benefit from what I would expect to be major growth for our small town in the next few years.  As your councilman I want to bring more transparency to the town, I want to capitalize on the opportunities that this area has to offer for the betterment of our residents, I want to see that current orders of operations are modernized and I want to work on fixing common problems we have had for decades. I’d like to attempt to work closely with the parish to bring our taxpayers the most benefit through what both the town and the parish can offer.

For nearly a year, I have been working with the planning committee to help write new planning and zoning ordinances and modify the zoning map to help give peace of mind to our current residents through ordinances that if passed will put a limit on fill material to protect existing residents.  While growth is much needed to bring Sorrento to its full potential, I don’t want our current residents to be forgotten, those who have called this Town home for most or all of their lives should be heard and valued. I feel a top priority needs to be to work with the parish to consider serious drainage improvements in Sorrento. I’ve spoken closely with FEMA over the past several months to understand the new floodplain maps, and I plan to continue to work with different agencies to help Sorrento Residents get the full benefits of FEMA’s Community Rating System to decrease flood insurance premiums to all of our residents while also keeping all residents as protected as possible.  I would be honored if you would consider me for your next councilman for the town of Sorrento.

I am happy to answer any questions or concerns. Please feel free to contact me at 225-806-3583 or guidrysproperties@gmail.com.
