Samantha Young appointed Assistant Principal of Oak Grove Primary

Donaldsonville, La. — Ascension Public Schools announces the appointment of Samantha Young as Assistant Principal of Oak Grove Primary School. Young will transition to her new position in July.

“Mrs. Young came to Ascension Parish eight years ago after beginning her education career in Texas. She has served in many different roles in our district, most recently in our administrative internship program. In fact, she spent a semester at Oak Grove Primary in that program and now will be their assistant principal,” said Ascension Public Schools Superintendent David Alexander.

Prior to becoming an educator, Samantha Young was a licensed insurance agent for five years and a practical nurse for three years. She began her career in education 15 years ago in Texas. In 2011, Young started working in Ascension Public Schools, where she served as a classroom teacher, graduation coach, instructional coach, and most recently as an administrative intern. In the course of her eight years in the parish, she has served in five schools spanning grades PK-12.

Young earned a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s degree in supervision from Texas A&M – Kingsville. She is also currently in the process of completing a doctoral degree in curriculum and instruction from the University of Louisiana at Monroe.

“I would like to thank the board, superintendent, assistant superintendent, directors and all who have supported me as a person and as a leader. I especially would like to thank Ms. Hudson for giving me this wonderful opportunity to serve alongside her and her team at Oak Grove Primary. I am excited to continue the great work I know we will do over the next many years taking care of the “nest” of Blue Jays,” said Young.

Samantha is married to David Young, an LSU Professor of Physics. The Youngs live in Ascension Parish and share three children, Sierra, Zachary, and Sydney, as well as a granddaughter, Emory Kate.
