Those of us who regularly file records requests with Ascension Parish Government know that damning information will be withheld under the guise of Attorney-Client privilege. The shroud of secrecy is often applied to mask inconvenient truths tending to make the parish president and his administration lackeys (this includes half the elected Parish Council) bad, or worse, as the case may be. Those who hide information are those having something to hide.
Appearing on the next East Ascension Drainage Board agenda is:
EXECUTIVE SESSION. In accordance with La. R.S. 42:17(A)(10), discussion of drainage work performed within municipal boundaries, including related legal counsel opinions and communications that are privileged under La. Code Evid. 506(B) (Cody M. Martin, Legal)
Sorrento’s Town Council is threatening legal action for EA Drainage’s failure, or refusal to make improvements to the town’s precarious drainage system.
We suspect that threat has EA Drainage circling the wagons, resorting to another in a series of legal fictions to do (or not do, as the case may be) whatever it will with approximately $100 million in existing funds. A “discussion of drainage work performed within municipal boundaries” where citizens pay the same EA Drainage taxes as every citizen outside Sorrento and the City of Gonzales is a piece of business affecting every resident of east bank Ascension Parish.
Can’t a public discussion be had without divulging privileged communications?
“The liberties of a people never were, nor ever will be, secure when the transactions of their rulers may be concealed from them.”–Patrick Henry
What is EA Drainage Board hiding? Quite a lot it seems.
